Watching whales and dolphins

The activity begins by arriving at the agency's office located in Bahia Ballena, Uvita where we offer a small snack of coffee, juice, pastries and bananas while waiting to complete the group. The group is ready, the guide takes them from the office to the beach approximately 300 meters towards the entrance to the Marino Ballena National Park where we will take the boat to begin the tour, during the tour we will take a tour of the Marino Ballena National Park, Piedra Ballena, Tres Hermanas Rocks, Ventanas Caverns and the Tómbolo de Punta Uvita, we visit a natural seabird sanctuary such as Piedra Ballena since we can see resident or migratory birds and some reptiles such as green iguanas and lizards. As part of the activity, if weather conditions allow it, you will be snorkeling in the reefs. corals of these wild areas, searches are carried out for cetaceans, whales in their season, dolphins, there is a 95% chance of seeing sea turtles.

Whale Season in Costa Rica

Humpback whales are observed in two seasons from December to the end of March, coming from the northern hemisphere and those coming from the southern hemisphere. They begin to be seen in the first weeks of July until the end of October. The most common to observe are the humpbacks or ( humpbacks). Known for their long migrations from the north side and the south side.

Occasionally you can see Bryde's whales and pilot whales. Dolphins are observed 95% of the year round, the most common to see on the Pacific coast are the bottlenose dolphins commonly known as bufeos and the spotted dolphins.

The chances of observing cetaceans are quite high, but they are not guaranteed every day since we are not sure of the exact place where they are found.

  • All children 12 years old and older are charged the normal rate.
  • Children from 4 to 11 years old are charged a child rate.
  • Children under 3 years old are free.
  • Ground transportation is not included in all tours.
  • All reservations must be paid 100%, to guarantee the reservation at least one week before arrival.
  • If the reservation is canceled in less than 24 hours, you must pay the full amount of the reservation.
  • Cancellations more than 24 hours before the previous day: there is a refund. Applies only to whale watching tours in the whale marine, mangrove tours.
